The History of Charlatte Reservoirs

The Beginning

Maurice Charlatte, an aeronautical engineer, established a mechanical sheet metal and industrial boilermaking workshop in Migennes (Yonne, France) with a team of around fifteen skilled craftsmen.

The Bladder Tank

Maurice Charlatte filed a patent that would revolutionize the fields of expansion, regulation, pressure control, and water hammer protection: the bladder tank was born !

The Surge Vessel

Designed to absorb sudden pressure variations in pipelines, this tank requires minimal maintenance and enabled Charlatte to capture the international market, particularly in developing countries.

Patent for the ARAA Tank

On February 6, 1978, in France, and on February 1, 1978, in Europe, Charlatte filed a patent for the ARAA (Automatic Air Regulation Anti-Water Hammer) tank for wastewater applications.

U.S. Subsidiary

In 1985, Charlatte launched its handling equipment department, diversifying into manufacturing the first airport carts.

In 1993, Charlatte S.A. established Charlatte Inc. in Bluefield, Virginia, USA, to expand sales of its airport carts across the American continent.

In 1994, this department became a separate entity: Charlatte Manutention.

Change of Legal Status

Charlatte S.A. transitioned to Charlatte Réservoirs, adopting a new legal status as a simplified joint-stock company (S.A.S.).

New Facilities

The company inaugurated its new headquarters in the industrial zone of Migennes (Yonne), the historic home of Charlatte.

Building Expansion

Three new work cells were created, each equipped with two work platforms to improve operator efficiency during shot blasting, cleaning, and painting processes.

The Boilermaking Division

The Fayat group consolidated all of its boilermaking entities, streamlining their operations under one division.

Further Expansion

A dedicated training facility was built to provide instruction to our staff, network partners, and clients.

Production Milestone

The 100,000th surge vessel has been completed and shipped from our workshops.
